Tailspin

Ingredients
1.5oz Gin (beefeater)
1oz Green Chartreuse
1oz Antica Formula Vermouth
1 Dash orange bitters
Campari

*Lemon peel

The Tailspin is a boozy classic that is essentially a riff on a “Bijou.” This drink uses a bar spoon of Campari to rinse the glass before pouring the cocktail in the glass. Theres a lot to love in this drink… Gin, Green Chartreuse, Antica Formula Vermouth, orange bitters, and a touch of Campari.

At the time of this recipe post, Green Chartreuse is hard to find in most areas, especially Nashville. Green chartreuse a bright-green herbal liqueur with a secret recipe of 130 botanicals. It has been, and still is produced in the French Alps by the Carthusian order of monks for more than two centuries. Due to an ever increasing demand for the liqueur, the monks that create the product have decided to scale back production in order to maintain their main vocation: meditation and prayer. Now Green Chartreuse will only be manufactured enough to sustain the lives of those who make it. I highly recommend picking up a bottle if you happen across one.

With that being said, bottles are still available! So please get yours and I highly recommend this recipe for your repertoire. This is a vintage cocktail that you need to try.

Recipe
1. Add gin, Antica Formula, Green Chartreuse, and bitters to mixing glass.
2. Add two large cubes and mix till cold.
3. Separately, rinse a coupe with a bar-spoon of Campari and then discard.
3. Pour mixed ingredients into chilled coupe.
4. Express lemon peel over drink and discard.
5. Add lemon twist as garnish.

Notes:
This drink also works over a large ice sphere where there will be little dilution. If you do not have Antica Formula, experiment with vermouths that you also enjoy and have on hand!
